So after a long two days of traveling I finally arrived in Jakarta. I flew form ABQ, NM to San Fran to Narita, Japan to Singapore, where I spent the night. The next day we (the other 11 Fulbrighters) flew to Jakarta. AMINEF (The organization who administers the Fulbright) is putting us up in a hotel for a month while here in Jakarta...it's a nice hotel in central Jakarta. I'll be doing training here for a month before I depart for South Kalimatan! Jakarta is quite cheap...to give you an idea I spent $1 on dinner last night. I don't feel too uncomfortable here...may be that I am used to traveling in third world countries. Or, maybe it's that I am traveling with 13 other people and AMINEF is taking care of us. Nevertheless, i am enjoying myself.
Even though Indonesia is a developing country I wasn't surpried to find a McDonalds, Starbucks, Chilis, Pizza Hut, Tony Romas and another Starbucks only blocks away. I'll be sure to avoid eating there!
